Snappy blog title eh? Oh well, no one will mistake what's going on here.
For today's feature presentation, I give you Free Style Quilts, A "No Rules" Approach by Susan Carlson. From the back cover: Discover fun, creative fabric collage. Susan Carlson's incredible quilts of underwater landscapes, floral designs, fish and portraits come to life as she shares her easy, "no rules" fabric collage technique and shows you how to create your own beautiful free-style quilt designs.
I'll tell you, the art quilts in this book are fantastic! Awesome! Beautiful! What I discovered about myself in relation to this book is that when it comes to quilting (and most things in life), I'm more like Mr. Monk. Traditional, orderly; definitely not "no rules" nor "free-style".
For the more artistic and adventurous quilter, this would be a fantastic book--or for anyone who just wants to look at the pictures. I've had this book for years, enjoyed the pictures, and never attempted one project in it.

Good luck!
That book sounds very interesting to me, so please count me in for the draw.
ReplyDeleteI tend to quilt more like you, but I did't want you to think I didn't care enough to comment!
ReplyDeleteI was so sure I was going to make a landscape quilt about 7 or 8 years ago. I bought and watched the entire landscape quilt video series by Nancy Z. and read the book as well. Anyway, like you, I never made a thing.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, please count me in on the giveaway!
I have seen many landscape quilts and always wanted to make one. I am not very artistic and not sure if I could do something like this.
ReplyDeletePut my name in the hat, if I win, maybe I will finally make one!
I really admire anyone who has the patience to make a landscape quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I'm not in that class of quilters just yet so I'll leave this generous giveaway for someone who would actually use it.
Snap, I have that one already, so don't put my name in the hat. I have never used it, but it is a fabulous book.
ReplyDeleteArtistic quilter or no, one can always find inspiration in the wierdest of places. I am sure that if it is not for me, someone else will find some inspiration in this book.
ReplyDeletePlease count me in.

I doubt I could ever do anything like a landscape quilt, but I can look at pictures and dream, right?
ReplyDeleteI would love to get inspiration from a book like this! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI have heard about Freestyle quilting but haven't tried it so I would be interested in the book. I do make up my own designs but this sounds quite different to that.
ReplyDeleteHello there...this sounds great!!! I have just got myself a Bernina that does freesytyle...Please count me in, Dzintra♥x
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an awesome book - I'm in!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try an art quilt. Especially a "story" quilt. I've been enamored with the
ReplyDeleteidea since I watched "An American Quilt."
It looks like fun, but I'm not too sure that it wouldn't just be admired at my house, too. Wow, I've gone backwards in your giveaways from day 8. you certainly have a cornucopia of fabulous books. Thanks for the opportunities Michelle!
ReplyDeleteI'm the guild librarian in NE Washington. I think the term "art quilts" scares some people off. We have a lot of traditional quilters who claim they don't like art quilts, yet they get lots of Oohs and Aahs during Show & Tell. Moral of the story? Don't call it an art quilt! ;o)

Looks like a beautiful book with lots of inspiration. Would be fun to win - an under-water scene sounds nice.
