Oops!

Some free motion quilting adventures fall into the undesirable category.  Having the corner of your backing tucked under and quilting it down as in the photo below is one of them.  Sigh.

And the leaves looked really good too.....  Rip, rip, rip.

Just as an aside, another thing I've learned is that if you're going to use multiple colors of thread, it may be a good idea to go with a wildly colored backing.  As you can see the non-white thread shows up brightly on the white background.  Not all of my quilting is that pretty either.  However, this quilt will go on my bed, so most people won't know what the back side looks like except me.  (And of course, all of you, because when I'm done, I'll probably post a picture of that too.)

  1. I hate it when I make a stuff up like that .Last time my quilting was less than perfect (think a very large pleat in the lower corner, I slacked off and washed the quilt in hot water then covered it with a label. Don't tell anyone....

  3. Been there, done that! It is painful to rip your perfect quilting out - especially if you are pleased with your work.
    Lovely leaves!!!

  4. So annoying isn't it. At least you are not alone, I'm pretty sure most of us have a similar tale to tell. I try to stay away from plain backing because my quilting is crap and it shows up too many mistakes.

  5. I should not say LOL - but I can't help it! Don't you think that has happened to me too?! After 2-3 'mistakes' I try my best to keep an eye on the backing so it doesn't happen again - and again! I try using bobbin thread that suits the backing, but that doesn't always happen. Your leaves look good! It's all about practicing!

  6. I think that's happened to all of us - or it's lurking around the corner just waiting to happen when we least expect it!! But your quilting does look awesome......
