Favorite Things Friday--Green Lights

It's time for another Favorite Things Friday hosted by Mrs. P at Quilting in my Pyjamas.  Link up and join in the fun!

Today, I've decided that one of my very most favorite things are green lights across the board on my DSL modem.

(My apologies for the blurry picture.  It turns out that green lights are rather hard to photograph--at least for me.)

You see, yesterday I didn't have green lights across the board and I had no internet access.  A storm came through during the night.  It wasn't bad.  We live in Nevada after all; not the Midwest (at least for a little bit longer).  Nevertheless, it affected my service.  I cannot tell you what 24 hours without my blog friends, email, access to banking, and the news can do to a person.  When I know I'm going to be without service, I prepare.  However, when it's imposed by external events..., well let's just say it's ugly.

  1. Green lights are always good. Sometimes mine has green lights, but it still won't work, but that's because computers hate me. I offered to wine and dine my modem, just to keep on its good side, but the snobby little thing refused my advances. It seems to have a crush on my husband, though. It always works for him.

  2. Glad your little green lights came on again! Funny how addicted we are to our electroinc toys! How is the move going?

  3. Yes I agree, those green lights are pretty darn good, although the modem that the green lights are on, may not be my most favourite thing, and when it's not working properly I positively detest it. Mine has been playing hard to get (or hide and seek) the last few days, every now and then it disappears for a few minutes, just enough to be very very very annoying.
The only and I mean only thing that is good when there is no internet is that I get a whole lot more crafting done.
    Yay for the green lights.

  4. I am with you on that one!!! As long as I can see those green lights just going about shining happily, I am happy. The moment they go red, on disappear completely, then I get frustrated and can't do my work. Unfortunately, the communication service here is a bit questionable, so our green lights goes red more often than not...At least then we can give attention to other important things - like quilting (as Marg stated)

  5. Green lights are good things. It is definitely not fun at our house when they don't work! Sorry you had to be without yours for 24 hours.

  6. here in the land of oz we are at the mercy of telstra who own all the cables, and are not great for customer service, but if your not with them its impossible to even find out what the problem is, we had an instance where we had no net, and somehow we had our neighbours ph line it took 2 weeks to resolve !

  10. It is sad, isn't it? I didn't realize how addicted I was until Clear changed over our service and the new stuff is intermittent at best! We still haven't sent back our old modem - when the new 3G goes out, we switch back to the old one - slower, but more reliable! Ah, the joys of living in the country...... ;-)

  14. I'm glad your green came back! There's enough to deal with in a day without the whole nature v. technology aftermath.

  15. I had no internet for an hour last night and I actually felt real anxiety ....I think I'm addicted to green lights.

Isnt it amazing how we feel cut off from our world when we have no internet. How quickly it's become an essential in our lives. I love that you picked green lights as your FTf Michelle.

How WILL you cope when you dont have green lights for a while during the move?Eeeeek!

  16. When the lights go out on the modem, and the internet goes dark, I sleep.

I lay my head down, and go to sleep.

Its the only real rest I get.
