Monday Miscellaneous

Slack Before Christmas:

It's been an entire week since I last posted.  I'd love to regale you with stories of pre-Christmas busyness that interfered with my posting, but the fact of the matter is I was just not feeling well.  Picked up some mild bug somewhere.  I'm still shaking off the effects.

Christmas:

Christmas proved to be a restful day, here at the Prairie Quilter household.  A much needed reprieve from painting and feeling that we simply had to be productive.  So we lounged around, except for making the pancake brunch that the four of us (my grandparents, mother and me) enjoyed.

Also we were preserving our strength.  My cousin, Lori and her family are here, arriving yesterday, the 26th.  While a visit from my cousin is always an enjoyable occasion, the thing that will make this visit special is that we will celebrate our birthday together.  Lori is two years younger than I am to the day, both of us born on December 30th.  This will be the first time we've celebrated together as adults.  In fact, it will probably be the first time either of us has done much celebrating in years.  Having a birthday stuck between Christmas and New Year's is really rather inconvenient.  Most people are just happy to have made it through Christmas and are hoping to regain enough steam to push on to the New Year--myself included.  But with the two of us together the formula this year has changed.

This Year in Review:

I don't tend to be an overly prolific quilter, and this year with all of the turmoil, it was particularly true.  Still, I'm proud of what I did finish this year:

Robynn's Quilt
From The Prairie Quilter

The Teddy Bear Quilt
From The Prairie Quilter

Matt's Quilt
From The Prairie Quilter

Sunshine in Winter
From The Prairie Quilter

I need to work on my quilt-naming skills, don't I?  Sunshine in Winter isn't bad, but the others could have been more poetic.

Blog Schedule:

If you don't hear from me again before next Monday, don't worry.  I'm just out with my cousin having fun.

  2. What is it with Blogger eating my comments lately? Trying again...

Have fun with Lori on your birthdays! I like the photo of the two of you.

Enjoyed your quilty year in review, and the YouTube on failures as well. BTW, I had to rehang Sunshine in Winter so it's right over my computer monitor and I can see it when I'm spending way too much time on the computer. It's so pretty!

  3. Happy Birthday for Thursday Michelle. I hope you and Lori have a wonderful time.

It isnt the amount of quilts you finish , it's about the fun you had making them. Your quilts all look a lot more complicated than anything Ive managed to finish. All so different but so pretty!

PS Actually naming my quilts is one of my goals for 2011. I havent in the past because Im creatively challenged to come up with anything that I like.

  4. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! I'm so glad you're feeling better as my future depends upon your continued good health! And Christmas doesn't even exist for me; this year is totally about the two of you. I am going to be in damn rare form, and cannot wait for festivities to commence! (I actually started "commencing" last night - hope that's ok...)

  5. First, I hope you're feeling better. It is no fun to be under the weather.

Second, winter birthdays are the pits! Mine is a mere three weeks after Christmas and I get pretty much the same reaction as you. I hope that this year you have a really fabulous day/week!

Third, your quilts are all really gorgeous! I love the teddy bear and as I mentioned earlier, Winter Sunshine is really amazing.

Fourth, I'm not sure why I'm making a list. I guess starting out by saying, 'First,' just sort of set the tone. In any case, I enjoyed the video of successful failures. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Best wishes for your birthday on Thursday! Hope you have a day to remember!!! Hope you will be feeling your best as well.
You did a wonderful job with the quilts you completed.
Naming quilts isn't my strong point either. In fact, only one of my four completed quilts have a name. The others are just "bed quilt", "Christmas quilt" and "baby quilt". My fist quilt's name is "Trials and Errors"...and there is stopped with the naming of quilts.
I am glad you took some time off of the reparations and spend some "me time" on Christmas. We all should do that - just forget about being rushed and about work that must be done, and just BE.

  7. Your quilts are SO gorgeous!!! I don't even want to look back at what I accomplished - I know it won't be much. I love the pic of you and your cousin, how fun to be able to celebrate together - have a WONDERFUL birthday, both of you!

  8. Happy Birthday for Thursday Michelle. I hope you and Lori have a lovely day.
You may not have finished many quilts this year, but they are all gorgeous and way more complicated and a lot larger than anything I have produced.
I spent part of today naming all my projects from 2010, it wasn't easy, but I'm pretty happy with most of the names.

  9. Hope you both enjoy your birthday celebration together! You have been working so hard on the house, I hope it will be a fun reprieve.

Your collection of finished quilts this year is beautiful! Really, such pretty color selections and all of them to completion! A couple of my finishes still need binding, or quilting. Good for you! Hope your goals for next year are completions, too.
